Ok,

i was thinking about that… what is the evolution of the data storage in computers technology? I mean, think about it, when i was young i had somes old floppy disk 5.25inch. It was containing an amazing amount of 720 KB !! Wow 720 KB what a deal.

The good old floppy disk 5.25inch

No seriously… i saw last week at Club price (A kinda grocery store for people who think that cold war isn’t over and they need stuff like 10 gallons of molasses and Sh”/$2 loads of toilette papers… FOR A GOOD PRICE… )

So… i saw at club price a Hard drive of 1 TERABYTE for about 200 good old Canadian bucks…

1 Terabyte harddrive

1 terabyte… in a grocery store…

Where i want to go with this story…

Let’s compare my good old floppy disk with this ClubPrice hard drive (and in this case hard is for Hardcore drive):

It’ll take at least 1.073742e+009 Floppy disks 5.25inch to first be able to be equals in term of data… let’s just forget in term of data speed access

that means 1 000 000 000 of Floppy disk 5.25inch…

Now let’s get back in the old days when i first bought my first computer with a good old 4go hard drive (thats about 1 million of my Floppy disks 5.25, a lot less the the ClubPrice Hard drive but… ).

At that time, i was wondering myself: “How i’ll be able to full my hard drive… 4go… no way that’s too much space…”.

LOL ! Yeah right !

So it’s clear that we are facing an exponential function where time and the capacity of data storage are just growing insanely

My exponential function with time and the capacity of data storage

Add to this the fact that the hard drive sold at Club Price is for the general public and for private usage the capacity is surely 5 times bigger or something like that i guest…

Conclusion:

Someday, somewhere, someone will laugh at our “Magnetic Dinosauric 1 Terabyte harddrive” because he will be able to “Save As” the Internet on his “kind of PDA holographic watch” or something…
